There's a reason a tennis bracelet is one of the pieces people reach for again and again, rather than saving for one big occasion. It doesn't announce itself the way a cocktail ring might, but it catches the light constantly, especially in that unplanned moment when you talk with your hands or reach across a table, so people notice it without you having to point it out. It's also one of the few diamond pieces you can reasonably buy for yourself, no proposal required, which is probably why it's become such a popular gift for a milestone birthday or a promotion, right alongside the more traditional anniversary.

Why It's Called a Tennis Bracelet

The name comes from an incident on the court: during a US Open match, tennis champion Chris Evert's diamond bracelet snapped and fell off mid-play, and she asked officials to pause the game until it was found. What had simply been known as a diamond line bracelet became, from then on, her tennis bracelet — and the name stuck for the whole style. That mix of high-stakes sport and high jewelry is probably part of the appeal: a piece elegant enough for a formal evening, but originally proven sturdy enough to survive an actual match.

Cut and Scale

Not every tennis bracelet looks the same, and the difference comes down to two things: the shape of the stones and how much of them there is. Our collection ranges from classic round and princess cuts, set in a row that reads as one continuous line of light, to fancier shapes like pear and trillion, and beyond, each breaking up that line with a more distinctive silhouette. Carat weight varies just as widely. A slim bracelet with small stones sits close to the wrist and wears almost like a fine chain, while a heavier design, built up toward 20 total carats, becomes the main event of whatever you're wearing.

The Clasp That Keeps It On

Because a tennis bracelet sits low on the wrist and moves constantly with your hand, the clasp matters more here than on almost any other piece of jewelry. Most tennis bracelets close with a box clasp — a tab that clicks into a box-shaped frame — usually backed up with a fold-over safety catch in case the main clasp ever works loose. The trade-off is that a box clasp is generally two-handed to fasten, worth keeping in mind if you're often getting dressed alone.

Choosing Your Metal

The metal sets the tone for any piece of jewelry, from the warm colour of yellow gold to the cool brightness of platinum. Our collection includes 417 (10K), 585 (14K) and 750 (18K) gold, so you can choose not only the shade you love but also the balance of purity, durability and weight that fits you.

  • Yellow gold tennis bracelets carry a warm, traditional tone.
  • White gold's rhodium plating gives them a brighter, whiter finish than platinum's naturally warmer grey-white tone, and unlike silver, it won't tarnish between wears.
  • Rose gold tennis bracelets have a warm pink hue from its copper content, and are naturally resistant to everyday wear.

For yellow, white and rose gold, 10K contains the most alloy metal for extra durability, 14K balances durability with colour, and 18K contains the most pure gold for the richest tone.
